I have done all forms of historical camping for over 25 years, and this is the ideal knife to keep in your camp kitchen, based on my experience. It is long enough to cut a good sized piece of meat, but also suitable for smaller vegetables without becoming unweildy. It is thin enough that it won't break through hard vegetables like carrots and potatoes, yet strong and durable. Made of high carbon steel and perfectly tempered to take and hold a good edge. Handle is American Cherry, and available in either natural oiled finish (which will become richer with age and use) or an aged finish, which gives an antique look that will also richen with age. These knives are very similar to the "Old Hickory" knives made by the now defunct Ontario Knife Company. They are made in the USA by myself in our workshop in Indiana. Please note that they are not dishwasher safe. They WILL rust and soaking in water will damage the scales. They should be cleaned immediately after use and dried after cleaning. No sheath, but a cardboard scabbard is included for shipping. You won't find a better camp kitchen knife for the price! Appropriate for periods 1880-1950. Measurement is approximately 10" overall, 6.5" blade, and the blade is about one inch wide. As these are handmade of natural materials, some variation in appearance and measurements is to be expected.
